Club History

Downham and District Swimming Club was formed in 1993 by Michael Jay and Elma Taylor. Elma has since moved on, however Michael is still involved in the coaching of the young swimmers. Since the club moved to the new pool in Downham Sports Centre less than 5 years ago, we have steadily increased our membership up to approximately 100 competitive swimmers. Downham and District Swimming Club offers swimmers the chance to compete in competitive galas and regular training sessions.
The previous Downham Market Swimming Pool was situated beside the Memorial Recreation Ground, and was formerly an outdoor pool built in the 1960's which closed in December 2002. Now the new pool is situated at Downham Market Leisure Centre on Bexwell Road.
